Meet Carmen
I’m a psychotherapist who is passionate about helping people with healing, growth and healthy change.
I received my formal psychology training at Marymount University, where I earned the Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology.
My training and work history includes mental health counseling with HIV/AIDS clients, grief counseling with clients experiencing depression and anxiety, and addictions counseling with clients experiencing mental disorders. I have additional training and experience in crisis and suicide intervention, meditation therapies and expressive arts techniques.
My post-graduate study includes teacher training certification in Jon Kabat-Zinn’s
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program based at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and
Body-Mind Psychotherapy training with Susan Aposhyan, the former director of Naropa University’s Somatic Psychology program.
Personally, I'm familiar with life path changes, as I worked in several
fields before a midlife shift to psychology. My experiences as a public radio news reporter, voice talent, literacy advocate, poet, writer and editor have informed my life path. I bring the creativity and wisdom I've gained from family, friends, colleagues, mentors and teachers to my work.
As the daughter of immigrants, I have an innate cultural sensitivity and a deep respect for all world and spiritual views.
