Meet Ricardo
Ricardo Villalobos, LPC
I'm committed to working with adults, adolescents, couples and families to help create healthy change. I welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and help you work with the difficulties you're facing.
~I'm a bilingual therapist who speaks English and Spanish.
~Soy un terapista bilingue que habla inglés y español.
I received my formal psychology training at Marymount University, where I earned the Master of Arts degree in Counseling.
My training and work history include mental health counseling with HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ clients; psychotherapy with adults, families and all couples, including same-sex couples; psychotherapy with at-risk adolescents and children who are abuse survivors; alcohol and drug addictions counseling with clients who have mental health disorders; and facilitating support groups on separation and divorce.
I have additional training and experience in body-mind therapies, couples and family therapy, bipolar disorder, addictions and trauma.
My post-graduate training includes certification as a Level 1 Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma clinician. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a treatment approach created by Pat Ogden, Ph.D. and endorsed by worldwide trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. I've also studied with Daniel Leven, founder of SomaSoul: Somatic Expressive Therapy, a
mind-body therapy that integrates mindfulness, body psychotherapy, creative arts and somatics to foster healing and transformation.
Before making a mid-life change to study graduate-level psychology, I spent many years as a human rights advocate, organizational development consultant and multicultural coach.
My parents were immigrants and I carry their cultural openness and respect with me. I'm committed to serving the diverse Washington, DC community.
